The parents we surveyed believe that the average gift for kids should cost $89. People also plan to spend $61, on average, for exclusive holiday-edition items like special foods, holiday clothes, new beauty products and more. The average person plans to spend well over $250 on the holidays this year - not including any potential travel costs. (Sorry, Casey, no soccer ball under the tree for you this year.) The gifts people claim are the hardest to wrap include bicycles (55%), gym equipment (46%), sporting balls (45%), guitars (45%) and candles (22%). Many people (51% of those asked) hate the task of wrapping gifts so much that they prefer paying a professional to wrap up items for them, and will do almost anything to avoid wrapping. Over half (52%) of those asked said gift wrapping all the presents they purchased took the joy out of their holiday season. The worst part of the holidays isn’t the Mariah Carey holiday hit on replay everywhere you turn, it’s the task of wrapping gifts, at least according to a recent Slickdeals survey of 2,000 Americans who were asked to identify the worst parts of the holiday season.
